Nia Long’s Brutally Honest Take on Dating After Divorce Has Fans Loving Her Even More
Nia Long may not necessarily be in the right space to want to date right now, but if she did—she’d have some parameters in place. And now, she’s getting transparent about it all—and folks online are absolutely here for it!
As you well know by now, Long has made it clear that she’s focused on herself ever since her shocking, and very public breakup with former Boston Celtics coach Ime Udoka in December 2022. However, that doesn’t mean she hasn’t thought about putting herself back out there in the dating game eventually. In fact, she recently opened up about it in a new interview for Playboy Magazine. In it, she admitted that while she wasn’t actively dating, she would be open for a potential situationship.
Explaining her logic behind not dating right now, Long said: “I feel like that [dating] requires me to go out and do something. I do think that if you’re looking for a partner, you have to be actively out there in order to meet. But I am not in that space right now. I’m really focused on my kids, my work, and my girlfriends, and going out and having a good time.”
She continued, “I like to get up and do what I want to do when I want to do it. It’s not that I don’t want to have a partner, but I was in a relationship for a very long time, and I’m enjoying getting to know myself without feeling the need to be of service to a relationship.”
Later on in the interview, the veteran actress—who’s set to star in the upcoming Michael Jackson biopic “Michael” on April 24—revealed that she’d never experienced a “situationship” but that she might “need” one. But there’s one major caveat.
“Here’s my biggest thing about dating. People talk to much. I need them to shut up. If we’re going to have a one night stand, I almost feel like I need them to sign NDAs.
As a bonus, if you’re looking to get into some sort of “entanglement” with Long, just know she’s “picky” and leans more towards younger guys because “young is fun.”
Naturally, by the time Long’s words began making the rounds on social media, both men and women couldn’t help but chime in with their two cents.
“I get where Nia’s coming from. And that’s the problem with a lot of guys nowadays. They’ve put women on such a pedestal that they need to tell everyone who they’re dating especially if she’s famous,” wrote one user on X/Twitter.
“Someone like Nia Long absolutely should require an NDA for flings. Famous men from the 90s are getting on podcasts talking about who they slept with back in the day, so I get it!” said another.
Over on Instagram, one other user wrote: “She runs a strict program, I love it!”
Added another, “Men have been lying about who and how they really are. They’ve gotten away with it until social media. The truth is out about men and that’s why they crashing out. They controlled the narrative for centuries through religion and patriarchy. Now women see the truth about love, relationships, and marriage, and child rearing and no longer wish to engage. The jig is up.”
