Lizzo Scores a Win in Court, But Her Legal Saga Continues

Lizzo is breathing a sigh of relief. The singer is celebrating a major courtroom victory after a judge dismissed the remaining claims in a former employee’s harassment lawsuit against her touring company. Lizzo says the ruling proves what she has maintained all along, but her legal saga is far from over.

After the dismissal, Lizzo took to social media to share her reaction, saying she was “relieved,” emphasizing that she had refused to settle the case. She also thanked her legal team and declared that “the truth has prevailed,” signaling just how significant the decision is for the singer after years of controversy surrounding allegations about her workplace.

“All the ridiculous claims by a wardrobe assistant who worked on tour for less than 3 weeks (including a claim they broke an acrylic nail) have been dismissed,” she said in a video. “It was all so shocking because I was being sued by someone who admittedly never met me. I prayed for the truth to come out and thanks to my incredible lawyers, the truth has prevailed.”

According to Billboard, the lawsuit was filed in 2023 by former wardrobe assistant Asha Daniels, who accused Lizzo’s touring operation, Big Grrrl Big Touring, of sexual and racial harassment, bullying and unsafe working conditions. Daniels also brought disability-related claims. Lizzo was previously dismissed from the case as an individual defendant, leaving her touring company to face the remaining allegations.

Now, those claims have been dismissed as well.

The judge determined that Daniels had not provided sufficient evidence to establish the workplace hostility or discrimination required under federal law. Daniels’ attorney has pushed back against the decision, arguing that questions surrounding the evidence should have been left for a jury to decide.

“The ruling appears to minimize evidence of a sexually charged work environment by assessing incidents too narrowly … rather than considering their cumulative impact,” Daniels’ attorney told Billboard. “We respectfully disagree with the Court’s approach and are considering appropriate next steps.”

Although Lizzo considers the ruling a significant legal victory, it doesn’t mean her legal battles are finished.

We previously told you that a separate lawsuit filed by three former backup dancers remains active. Those dancers have accused Lizzo of sexual harassment and assault, racial and religious discrimination, and creating a hostile work environment. While some claims in that case have already been dismissed, other allegations remain unresolved.

That makes the latest ruling an important win for Lizzo, but not necessarily the final chapter in the controversy that has surrounded her workplace.

For now, the singer appears determined to focus on the victory. But with another lawsuit still pending, the spotlight on the singer’s legal battles isn’t going away just yet.
