How Todd Chrisley Ensures His Granddaughter Loves Being Black
Todd Chrisley has always made sure his Black granddaughter, Chloe, is raised with cultural awareness and love on Chrisley Knows Best—and a resurfaced interview reveals the specific steps he took to support her identity.
In a newly resurfaced clip of an interview with Kandi Burruss for her “SPEAK ON IT” podcast, Chrisley explained how he was intentional about making sure his grandchild had a Black woman nanny so that she could be affirmed in her race.
Citing the fact that she “had enough white” due to her father being that race, the reality TV star shared why he chose to do that and hire a Black child psychologist to help Chloe answer any probing questions and think through any complicated feelings about why she looked different than the rest of her family members.

“I did use a Black therapist only because I felt like it would resonate more. She had enough white people telling her what to do. So she needed to have another perspective,” he said.
He went on to say that during library visits with the nanny, he also made Chloe do a book report on a successful Black woman of her choosing so that she could further build up her racial identity. Chrisley then shared how the two of them connected over the mini-series, “Self Made: Inspired by the Life of Madam C.J. Walker,” and how he used that story to encourage her to go after her dreams and goals.
“Chloe knows that whole story [of Madam C.J. Walker]. Chloe knows Harriet Tubman. She knows all of the famous Black women who have suffered before her. But that’s because we have put forth that effort to make sure that she was protected, to make sure that her culture was protected,” Chrisley explained.
In addition to this, Chrisley has also never shied away from having tough conversations about race with Chloe or addressing it on his popular show. Each time, the end goal is clear: making sure that his grandchild knows she’s beautifully different and loved unconditionally regardless. Given that, it’s no wonder why folks online were quick to give him his props for his intentionality.
“It’s good he took the initiative because these kids usually grow up insecure about their non-white side; it’s a trainwreck. We see it all the time. You have to instill self-love at a very young age or society is going to teach them to hate themselves,” said one user on X/Twitter.
“One person Todd don’t play bout is his grandbaby,” wrote another.
Another user noted: “I don’t care for his political views & etc, but I gotta say he rides for & protects his granddaughter.”
Added another, “I really appreciate him, I really do, and I’m glad that he was able to make sure that his black child knew that she was black and put her in healthy situations to make her feel good about being black and being his child. God bless him.”
