The Medical Crisis That Led Gap Band’s Charlie Unable to Walk

Legendary singer Charlie Wilson is opening up about his health journey and detailing a truly shocking experience he endured just last year. And trust us when we tell you, you’ll be happy to see how he’s faring now that he’s finally on the other side of it.

The “Computer Love” singer’s revelation came as part of a recent interview he gave with popular radio host Big Boy. During their conversation, Wilson shared that he first began exhibiting signs that he was having some problems after performing some shows at some point in 2025. While he wasn’t able to specifically call out the problem, he shared that his wife was the first person to notice that he wasn’t his usual self.

“My wife can catch it, just like that. She said, ‘Something ain’t right with you,’ and off to the hospital we went,” Wilson explained.

What happened next is a bit blurry to Wilson as he doesn’t quite remember his stay in the hospital, but he did recall suffering through multiple strokes back to back, and his wife by his side, praying the whole time consistently.

“That was the first time that I had had that many strokes at the same time…What I knew is God was with me. I knew my wife was praying every day, every hour of the day.”

The Gap Band singer later went on to share how the strokes left him in such bad shape that it took him six months to learn how to walk again.

“I just learned how to walk again and I really just don’t have that yet,” Wilson said before saying how determined he is to still get back onstage and perform regularly.

“I can’t stop yet; I got a long way to go, I’m still who I am vocally,” he added.

But if you needed a little bit more proof that the “Yearning For Your Love” singer still had his singing chops, look no further than his recent appearance at AFRAM’s 50th anniversary festival in Baltimore. In a now-viral video, it’s clear that the veteran entertainer has been taking care of himself and his voice in the months since his strokes and that he still has what it takes to satisfy a crowd.

Of course, this isn’t the first time Wilson has gone through health challenges. In 2008, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, though he successfully beat it months later. Here’s hoping he continues to recover quickly from these strokes, we still can’t get enough of you, Uncle Charlie!
