New Video Captures Distraught Karmelo Anthony Weeping, Claiming Self-Defense After Fatal Stabbing

New footage captures Karmelo Anthony’s raw, emotional state following the April 2025 school track meet stabbing in Frisco, Texas.

In the video, which was first released by TMZ, a distraught Anthony can be heard weeping as police apprehend him for the fatal attack on Austin Metcalf.

As the video continues, Anthony can be heard saying to the police officers, “he put his hands on me.” He continued, “I told him not to.”

Separate bodycam footage reveals Anthony acknowledging the stabbing on camera. When an arresting officer refers to him as the alleged suspect, Anthony replies, “I’m not alleged, I did it.”

Collin County also provided photos of the knife prosecutors said that Anthony brandished to stab Metcalf with.

Additional security footage tracks the moments leading up to and after the tragedy. Separate clips capture Anthony sitting in the stadium bleachers and Metcalf walking into the sports complex, while a final, chaotic shot from the same camera shows panicked students fleeing the stadium just moments after the stabbing.

Following the polarizing verdict, Anthony’s legal team filed a notice of appeal.

After hearing the court’s decision, many pointed out that Anthony’s verdict highlights the injustice when Black victims defend themselves. On June 10, 2026, a Collin County jury in Texas delivered a guilty verdict in the high-profile murder trial, sentencing him to 35 years in prison. He will be eligible for parole after serving half of his sentence.

During the trial, Anthony claimed self-defense, but the jury, which featured no Black jurors, ultimately rejected his defense and “sudden passion” claims after less than three hours of deliberation. They concluded that Anthony was the primary aggressor.

In the aftermath of Anthony’s verdict, his parents have struggled to believe their new reality. Andrew Anthony, Karmelo’s father, described the ordeal as a “nightmare” during an appearance on “The Breakfast Club.”

“He is a wonderful son. He’s a wonderful student,” his mother, Kala Hayes, added as she fought back tears.

Karmelo’s parents also lauded him for being an athlete while maintaining a 3.7 GPA and working two jobs.

“I didn’t know how great he was until this tragedy,” Andrew Anthony said.

Karmelo’s grandmother, Toni Hayes, vowed that the family would continue to fight for justice for her grandson.
