Inside NFL Champion Justin Tuck’s Multi-Million Dollar Wall Street Evolution

Jason Tuck was known for his exploits on the football field. But in his new gig, he’s helping investors get their money right.

Following his retirement, the University of Notre Dame and Wharton School of Business alum has worked as a Managing Partner at Goldman Sachs, per his Linkedin profile, since 2018. Instead of reading the opposing team’s offense, Tuck now reads the latest financial developments and internal business metrics that grow his clients’ portfolios.

During an interview with Adam Glyn, a New York City-based comedian and a self-described street reporter, Tuck revealed that his athletic prowess opened doors for him to get an amazing education and prepare for his post-NFL life.

“Sports for me was a conduit or a gateway to get a great education for free. My mom and dad couldn’t afford to send me to the University of Notre Dame,” said Tuck. “It was always the plan to go and do something from a career standpoint, that was very different than athletics.”

When Glyn asked Tuck what his formula for success was, the former defensive end had a simple reply: “Follow your passion.”

“If you love what you’re doing, you’re never working. I know that’s cliché, but I’ve had the great fortune and blessing to love what I do,” Tuck continued. “So while it’s still complex and hard, and good and bad days, it’s what I like to do… That’s something I encourage all these players [to do] when they think about transitioning. Don’t follow the trends of what everybody else did. Go find out what it is that you wanna do and know that you have the skill set or can develop the skill set to do so.”

As a managing partner, Tuck is part of an elite tier of just 400 to 450 global leaders of a workforce of more than 38,000 executives serving as the firm’s top revenue generators and department heads. They are responsible for steering firm-wide strategy and closing the company’s deals with its most high-profile clients.

Along with his work on Wall Street, Tuck leads RUSH [Read—Understand—Succeed—Hope] for Literacy, which he founded with his wife, Lauran Williamson, in 2008. The mission of the program is to close the educational opportunity gap for low-income youth by providing essential literacy resources, combating summer learning loss, and introducing financial literacy concepts to families.

“We had done so much through charity work, but we didn’t have anything to call our own,” Tuck said in an interview with Notre Dame. “We’re very passionate about kids, we’re very passionate about education, and we really wanted to do something that was all-encompassing. We felt as though literacy was a number-one stumbling block for kids and a great educational blueprint, so we started R.U.S.H. for Literacy.”

Affectionately nicknamed “The Freak” for his unique athletic ability, Tuck played nine seasons with the New York Giants (2005–2013) and his final two seasons for the Oakland Raiders (2014–2015). With the Giants, Tuck won two Super Bowls in 2008 and 2012.
