Kirk Franklin Has Surprising Message for Druski and His Jokes

Even after comedian Druski dropped his now-viral skit poking fun at megachurch pastors, gospel legend Kirk Franklin isn’t worried about any potential church jokes he might dish out when he takes the stage as host of the 2026 BET Awards later this month. In fact, you might be surprised to learn how Franklin actually feels about the young star and his propensity to shake the table with his humor.

As you well know by now, Druski has been taking aim at different people in his famous skits that leave no stone or cultural nuance unturned. Whether it’s right-wing white folks, Black Brits, or overly charismatic megachurch pastors—there’s been no limit to who or what Druski will parody. Although his skits are meant to entertain, he ruffled some feathers in January 2026 when he dropped his “Why Did I Even Come to This Church?” video satirizing the Black megachurch experience (using one of Franklin’s songs as an opener).

Still, when the “Brighter Day” singer was asked about Druski and his comedy by TMZ recently, he admitted that he was “very talented” and praised him for using his platform to showcase his talents without waiting for Hollywood to give him a cosign. On the topic of the upcoming awards show and whether or not there are some jokes Druski may need to steer clear of, Franklin gave a surprising response.

“When you’re a storyteller, you shouldn’t have any limits; you tell the stories,” he explained. “I mean, when you look at the Bible, the Bible is stories of murder, crime, adultery, genocide. There’s a lot of violence in the Bible; there’s a lot of love in the Bible. There’s a lot of scandal in the Bible.”

Franklin went on to say that if something as “holy” and sacred as the Bible didn’t stay away from controversial topics, then neither should Druski.

“If the author of the holy script didn’t censor himself, then we shouldn’t censor the stories we tell,” the “Hosanna” singer said.

Who knows, we might just see Druski and Kirk Franklin collaborate on something soon if he keeps this energy up! That’ll really get the people going.

The 2026 BET Awards go down Sunday, June 28.
