Chris Brown Responds to Congressional Honor Backlash
After days of online debate, Chris Brown is responding to the controversy surrounding the honor he recently received from U.S. Representative Jasmine Crockett during his concert in Arlington, TX.
As we previously told you, social media was set ablaze after footage of Crockett and fellow Texas Representative Venton Jones appearing at the aforementioned concert hit timelines. They were there to bestow Brown and Usher with an official congressional record recognition, a move that many on the internet questioned severely given the “Kiss Kiss” singer’s history of domestic violence and assaults.
Hot online debates aside, Brown was initially gracious after receiving the honor, writing in his Instagram stories at the time: “I apologize for any backlash you had to deal with for awarding me. I’m not political, but I move off of frequency and energy, and I’m so grateful.”

After seeing the online backlash, Jones decided to issue an official apology statement to Black women, women, and survivors of sexual and domestic abuse for honoring Brown in that way on Instagram. He also went on “The Don Lemon Show” to reiterate the apology, insisting that he and Crockett were there at the request of the venue to help “mobilize voters” ahead of the upcoming November election.

After seeing Jones’ statement on Instagram, Brown immediately hopped in the comments with a response of his own, writing curtly: “Keep that award.” He went on to vent about the entire ordeal in a follow-up post to his Instagram stories.
“Funny thing is, Y’ALL CAME TO ME WITH THIS, NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND!! I was minding my damn business. My shows in Dallas were already sold out. I ain’t ask to be honored because I knew some shit like this would happen and [Venton Jones] immediately started tap dancing and apologizing because he didn’t wanna lose voters and support,” Brown wrote in part.
He continued: “I have a great idea, how about y’all leave me the f*ck alone and let me focus on the fans that spent their money to actually see me and support me.”
Crockett has yet to issue a separate statement or respond to Brown’s words.
