Candace Owens and Hunter Biden Just Sat Down for the Most Unexpected Interview of the Year
The world is still in disbelief over conservative podcaster Candace Owens’ political flip-flopping over the past months. But after dropping an unexpected interview with President Joe Biden’s embattled son, Hunter, it seems the long-standing political divide separating Owens from Hunter has now been blurred even more.
Let’s give some context. Hunter’s 2024 conviction on federal firearms charges left a permanent stain on him and his father’s legacy. That was all on top of Hunter’s admission to being a drug addict in 2019, the New York Times reported.
For years, Owens was among Hunter’s most vocal critics, frequently aiming at his struggles with addiction and legal troubles. But in an interview released this week, the unsuspecting duo sat down for a conversation that surprised many folks across the political spectrum.
The nearly two-hour podcast marked a rare public appearance for Hunter, who typically likes to stay out of the spotlight since his father left the Oval Office. Their discussion touched on addiction, family, politics, religion and the intense scrutiny both figures say they face from the media and political opponents.
But first, Hunter had to address the elephant in the room.
“I’ve heard you call me a crackhead many times,” Biden told Owens in the interview. “And the truth of the matter is, I was a crackhead.”
While many folks might look at Hunter’s admission as taboo, he’s spoken publicly about his past drug addiction. He told Owens he’s been sober since 2019. That’s why, when cocaine was found inside the White House in 2023, Hunter took issue.
“I’ve been sober since June 1st of 2019, cleanly sober, verifiably so, by the way,” he pointed out. Hunter told the conservative he’s only spent an estimated 30 nights at the White House, and logistically speaking, he wasn’t even at the White House when the cocaine was discovered.
“I’m an easy target and understandably so,” he added.
The pair also discussed how substance abuse affected both of their families and personal lives. Eventually, Owens apologized for some of her past rhetoric.
Despite their ideological differences, both Hunter and Owens also expressed similar frustrations with political and media tools that often profit from outrage, according to them. Specifically, Hunter called out the leaders in Washington, D.C., who he said forced Biden out of a second term.
“They crushed my dad,” he said. “When they saw their chance, they did everything in their power to push him out.” Interestingly enough, Owens has been a fierce critic of the former president. Still, she kept a tight lip on most of her criticisms of Biden during the interview.
Hunter and Owens did, however, discuss their shared status as becoming public targets, specifically, as it relates to the assassination of Charlie Kirk, the far-right close friend of Owens.
“We still don’t know what happened to Charlie Kirk,” Owens said. We previously told you his death marked a turning point for Owens, who was a MAGA ally. Tyler Robinson was charged with Kirk’s murder, but Owens still has unanswered questions.
“There’s zero interest,” she added. “That’s another thing that just completely for me was like I’m done with Trump.” Hunter praised Owens for getting to the bottom of Kirk’s death, proving once again that two unsuspecting people can find common ground.
The conversation extended beyond politics. The two discussed religion, forgiveness and what it means to rebuild a life after scandal. Their conversation offered a rare sliver of hope that two people who have spent years on opposite sides of America’s political battles can actually get along.
