Black Therapy Today — Writer Guidelines

Centering mental health. Advancing healing. Elevating community voices.

Overview

Thank you for your interest in contributing to Black Therapy Today. Our editorial platform exists at the intersection of mental health, health equity, culture, and community. We uplift stories, research, and expertise that advance emotional wellness, especially within Black communities and other historically marginalized groups.

Our audience includes clinicians, mental health professionals, public health experts, researchers, advocates, and everyday readers seeking accessible, evidence-informed insights that honor lived experience.

Blogs (Notes from the field)

Most of our online content is written by clinicians, researchers, health professionals, wellness practitioners, storytellers, and culturally informed writers. Contributors typically publish posts aligned with a clear theme rooted in mental health, health, or community wellness.

If you represent a voice aligned with our mission — clinician, scholar, or storyteller — we want to hear from you. When submitting a blog proposal:

  • Describe the concept for your blog series.
  • Share why this topic matters now in the current mental health landscape.
  • Explain what qualifies you or the proposed author to lead this conversation.
  • Include one to three samples of previously published writing.

Feature Articles

For longer-form or investigative pieces, begin by submitting a pitch. Many feature writers begin as blog contributors; we evaluate submissions for depth, originality, and public value.

What We Are Looking For

We seek story ideas that deepen understanding, drive awareness, and spark meaningful conversation about mental health and holistic wellbeing.

  • Clinical insights
  • Culturally grounded healing practices
  • Health equity and social determinants of mental health
  • Trauma, resilience, and community wellness
  • Emerging research or innovative therapeutic models
  • Mental health policy and advocacy
  • Lived-experience narratives rooted in dignity and truth

We value originality, cultural relevance, insight grounded in evidence or practice, and clear, accessible writing. We do not accept poetry or fiction at this time.

How to Pitch or Request an Assignment

When submitting a proposal, clearly explain what you want to write and why the topic matters now. Identify sources, voices, or research you plan to include.

  • Indicate if your piece fits a specific section (e.g., Clinical Insights, Culture and Wellness, Health Equity, Community Voices).
  • Share why you are the right person to tell this story.
  • Include links to one to three writing samples if available.

Response Time

We receive many submissions. If your pitch aligns with editorial direction, a team member will follow up with next steps. We may not respond to every proposal.
