Wiz Khalifa Avoids Prison Time in Romania, Here’s Why He’s Still Not In the Clear
There’s finally some good news related to Wiz Khalifa‘s legal drama in Romania. Unfortunately for him, though, his good deal may not last as long as he’d like. Let’s break it down.
On Thursday, it was announced that the “See You Again” rapper would not have to serve his nine-month prison sentence related to his December 2025 conviction on charges of illegal possession of a risk drug after he brought weed into the country and was subsequently investigated for allegedly smoking it while onstage during a performance at the Beach Please festival in July 2024, per Vice News. In May 2026, Khalifa was added to Romania’s most wanted list, making international travel and touring complicated.

However, nearly a year later, a judge in the case decided to annul the decision, overturn the conviction, and strike the occurrence from the record. But in a twist the rapper didn’t see coming, Romania’s DIICOT (Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism) has decided to appeal the ruling and has opted to go through the process of trying Khalifa again in court, according to VICE.
This means that while the “Black and Yellow” rapper may be a free man now, he may end up behind bars once DIICOT returns to court in early November 2026. The investigation is still open, and it doesn’t mean that Khalifa’s been acquitted. But it does mean that he has a little room to breathe easy before things heat back up again.
As we previously told you, video footage of Khalifa smoking a joint onstage and getting arrested at the festival went viral at the time, with fans voicing their concerns about how things were going to play out. In the immediate aftermath, he did sound remorseful about the incident, writing in a post on social media then: “Last night’s show was amazing. I didn’t mean any disrespect to the country of Romania by lighting up on stage. They were very respectful and let me go. I’ll be back soon. But without a big ass joint next time.”
Here’s hoping that statement will help him avoid prison for a second time.
