Why Fans Are Calling Out Mary J. Blige Over Her Las Vegas Residency

If you didn’t already know, Mary J. Blige is currently entertaining her fans from all over thanks to her highly anticipated Las Vegas residency. But as viral clips of the performances hit TikTok, the initial excitement is curdling into buyer’s remorse. Don’t worry, we’ll explain.

You see, Blige kicked off her inaugural “My Life, My Story” residency at the top of this month. As you might expect, the show leans heavily on nostalgia, packing the stage with her signature boots, beloved choreography, and the historic catalog that solidified her status as the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul.

However, judging from a few clips from her concerts, it’s becoming increasingly clear that some fans aren’t really enjoying their experience—and for good reason.

To be specific, in several clips, the “Can’t Be Without You” singer could be seen lounging in a chair while singing with less than expected enthusiasm. In others, she could be seen giving a little energy to her dance moves while in separate clips—she could be seen giving herself a break from singing so that the audience could fill in for her.

And while we know that entertainers don’t necessarily have to be moving and shaking every second of their set, for more than a handful of her fans, they’re now fed up with her lack of vigor. As you might expect, they’re taking to social media to express their disappointment.

“In all these clips she sang a little bit and the audience sang the rest of the song. Paid to hear her sing not the audience,” wrote one user on TikTok.

“She said I ain’t singing by myself,” quipped another.

One other user wrote: “I love Mary , I’m a day one chick , but those tickets were too expensive for her to be sitting down singing.”

Added another, “Concert could have been a zoom.”

Despite what she’s not giving, there have been a few highlights of the residency thus far, like her bringing out Usher as a surprise guest not too long ago. Blige even managed to extend her residency, adding new dates in August, September and October, Billboard announced.

Yet and still, stunts and special folks may not be enough to assuage some fans’ feelings if things don’t change soon.
