Why Anok Yai Is Setting the Record Straight on Alleged Met Gala Bathroom Mishap
Usually, when model Anok Yai is in the headlines, it’s due to whatever fabulous magazine cover or fire ensemble she’s boasting. But this time around, she’s in the news in an effort to clear the air on an alleged mishap she purportedly experienced at the Met Gala in 2024. Don’t worry, we’ll explain.
As we’ve shown you many times before, Yai has been a highly anticipated figure at the prestigious fashion event for the last several years, thanks to her truly jaw-dropping and stellar looks. Her fit in 2024, in particular—where she was dripped out from head to toe in a bodysuit made of Swarovski crystals—had people ogling for days at her obvious glamor.

Unfortunately, it’s that same look that’s now the topic of renewed conversations thanks to a recent article in the Washington Post. And why is that, you may ask? Well, it’s because the Post decided to do a piece exposing just how celebrities manage to go to the bathrooms in their elaborate gowns and outfits during events like the Met Gala.
In it, they spoke to stylist Mickey Freeman who revealed that an unnamed client of his who was decked out in a “stunning entrance in an elaborate couture sheer mesh jumpsuit, intricately embroidered and adorned with a stunning array of hand-stitched Swarovski crystals and pearls, covering her from neck to toe”—had to be sewn into their jumpsuit after the zipper got stuck as she was getting dressed. However, after getting “swept up in the grandeur and excitement” of the moment, the client later ripped a hole in the ensemble when she attempted to go use the bathroom. Given the fact that Freeman’s outfit description sounded similar to Yai’s, the post clocked her as the unnamed client.
Now, however, Yai herself is speaking out about the alleged incident and combatting the Post’s narrative. Taking to Instagram in a since-expired story post, Yai denied that she was the one who ruined her outfit and blasted the outlet for mentioning her name without receipts.
“I usually stay quiet and keep to myself but how dare you misalign my character and imply that I ripped my outfit and peed on myself during the Met Gala of 2024! Fact check next time! Are you crazy?!” she wrote per the Daily Mail. “If you find any photos of my outfit ripped or urine dripping down my leg, send it to me.”
Thankfully for the post, they didn’t have to come back with anything as Freeman would later step in to further deescalate the situation on social media.
In since expired posts to his Instagram stories on Wednesday, he explained that it actually wasn’t Yai and that he’d never even worked with her to begin with.
“‘Nope! It was not Queen Anok Yai,” he said as captured by The Daily Mail.
He later added: “She was never part of the story, which is why I found it so absurd when I saw her name! Not to mention, I’ve never worked with @anokyai in any capacity.”
Yikes! You see what happens when you don’t fact-check, first? Let this be a good lesson to the Post to make sure they have their ducks in a row before they start naming names.
