Why a Viral TikTok of a Black Girl On A Forest Date With a White Man Has the Internet Scared

A Black woman’s TikTok about a recent forest date with a white man she met on Hinge has gone viral as folks online warn that the meetup could have been the setting of a true crime story.

In the video, user Ambergerss showed her followers how she went into a forest with her date. While that alone is only slightly questionable, it was the caption on her video that raised people’s eyebrows.

“That one time my date joked about killing me in an area I’d never been before,” she wrote.

As you would expect, this raised immediate red flags with folks watching. Things would only get more troubling as the video continued, showing the man running ahead of her in the forest when they were supposed to be jogging together, not stopping for her when she asked for a break, and joking about murdering her.

“This is where I was gonna kill you,” the man said, as they walked into a secluded area of the forest.

Once he realized she was recording him, he tried to backtrack, saying with a laugh: “Oh my God, did you record that? I was just kidding.”

Although the man claims he was joking, many people online weren’t laughing. In fact, the comments section was full of people warning the user (legally Amber) against spending any more time with the man.

“He took you to a location that you don’t know, showed that he can outlast you while running AND threatened to kill you? You need to get pepper gel spray and make a police report. He’s making a plan to get you,” one user said.

“Notice how he said he was joking when you was aware you were recording,” wrote another.

One other user wrote, “Joke. When blk ppl are literally dying.”

Added another: “Girl he was serious!! He said he was joking when he realized you were recording. Go to the police report him because he maybe killing his dates.”

Other users even pointed to real-life examples of Black women and young girls who were allegedly harmed by their partners, specifically referencing the cases of influencer Ashley Jenae, who died under mysterious circumstances while on a trip with her white boyfriend to Tanzania. Another person brought up the case of singer D4vd and the death of Celeste Rivas, and how he allegedly mentioned in a song that he would dismember her body before it actually happened.

It should also be noted that Black femicide rates are alarming in the United States and should be taken seriously. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Black women who die due to intimate partner violence make up about 41.5 percent of all female homicides. A 2023 report from The Violence Policy Center found that 733 Black women were killed by men in single-victim incidents – a rate more than double that of White women. Although Black women make up 14% of the female population, they represent over 31% of women killed by men.”

Whether or not the man in this viral video is joking, people everywhere should know that Black women dying at the hands of a partner is nothing to laugh at. And what makes this situation even more interesting is that user Amber has decided to keep seeing this man, as evidenced by a couple of follow-up TikToks that show them spending time together out and about, at restaurants, and more.

We’re not in the business of telling anybody what to do with their love life. But we can only hope that this story has a happy ending and doesn’t end up in headlines.
