Who is Michael Desronvil, the Juror at the Center of the Lindsay Clancy Mistrial?
The Lindsay Clancy trial ended without a verdict after one juror refused to join the other 11. Now, that juror — a Black man — is breaking his silence about what happened inside the deliberation room and why he stands by his decision.
Michael P. Desronvil identified himself as the lone holdout juror whose refusal to join the other jurors resulted in a mistrial, according to The New York Times. Clancy, a former labor-and-delivery nurse, admitted to killing her children in their Massachusetts home in 2023. But while her defense argued not guilty by reason of insanity, Desronvil said he did not buy it.
Nearly two weeks after deliberations ended, the juror is defending his decision, saying he never doubted that Clancy was criminally responsible for her children’s deaths.
In a statement provided to NewsNation through a spokesperson, Desronvil rejected accounts that he was wavering or misunderstood the standard of reasonable doubt.

“I didn’t have any doubts,” he said, adding that when he attempted to present alternative theories during deliberations, he was repeatedly cut off. Desronvil said the physical evidence, testimony from key witnesses and the prosecution’s case convinced him that Clancy “knew exactly what she was doing and planned.”
Clancy’s defense argued that she was suffering from postpartum psychosis, as The Root has previously reported. Prosecutors argued that she understood what she was doing and had planned the killings.
The 12-person jury deliberated for seven days before the judge declared a mistrial on September 4 after the jurors repeatedly reported that they could not reach a unanimous decision.
Jurors confirmed the panel was split 11-1, with Desronvil standing alone.
Who Is Michael P. Desronvil?
The 48-year-old juror is from Bridgewater, Massachusetts, according to Newsweek. After the trial, a fundraiser was launched and has drawn a surge of donations after he publicly explained his decision. Contributions reportedly topped $287,000 following his first public comments about the case, the New York Post reported. His attorney, Edward Paltzik, thanked supporters and said an official fundraiser is being arranged.
He described Desronvil as an “American Hero and Champion of Justice” for standing his ground during jury deliberations. The lawyer added that Desronvil “loves the United States of America as the greatest country in the world; cherishes our sacred Constitution as the pinnacle of human liberty; and supports our amazing leader, President Donald Trump, as a fellow defender of common-sense, liberty, and sanity.”
Desronvil’s past has also come under scrutiny since the mistrial. Court records show that Desronvil was charged in 2021 in connection with an alleged assault involving his then-wife, according to Newsweek. He pleaded not guilty, and the case was later dismissed without a conviction.
According to court documents obtained by NBC10 Boston, Desronvil was also subject to an active restraining order requested by his nephew when the Clancy trial began in July 2026. The nephew’s filing in the restraining order case alleges a physical altercation with Desronvil in 2025. Desronvil has not been convicted in relation to these allegations.
Lone Black Juror Dissents
Foreperson Roni Carlson said Desronvil at one point acknowledged having reasonable doubt during the Clancy deliberations, NBC reported. Still, he reportedly refused to vote for a finding of not guilty by reason of insanity. Another juror claimed Desronvil did not sufficiently engage with arguments from the rest of the panel, while another described efforts to explain the legal standard to him.
Those accounts are the jurors’ descriptions of deliberations– not the findings by the court.
For now, the Clancy case remains unresolved. Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz has not announced whether the mother will be retried. Another hearing is scheduled for September 29.
