What’s Really Going On With Boxing Legend Sugar Ray Leonard and His Son’s Shocking Arrest

It’s not everyday that boxing icon Sugar Ray Leonard makes headlines. But unfortunately, all that changed on Wednesday (May 20) thanks to an unfortunate incident with his son—and we’ve got a few details on what exactly went down.

For context, not much negativity has been publicized between Ray and his youngest son, Daniel, over the years. In fact, in several social media posts in the last two years alone, the father and son could be seen getting along and smiling for the camera.

“So happy to be with my son Daniel this weekend! I am so proud of you!!!” Ray wrote in part in an Instagram birthday post to his son in 2023.

However, per Prime Timer, Daniel was noticeably absent from family photos celebrating his mother Bernadette’s birthday in April. This could likely be due to whatever “phase” she alluded that the three of them were going through in a Valentine’s Day post to social media a year prior.

“Happy Valentine’s Day to my hearts!!! Love you both beyond and we will get through this faze[sic],” she wrote at the time.

So, fast forward to May 2026, and it’s no wonder that Ray’s fans were shocked to find out that his son had been arrested at his father’s home. According to TMZ, Daniel tried to enter his dad’s West Los Angeles home, which then tipped off Ray’s in-house security team. After alerting local authorities and them subsequently arriving at the home, the security team then led them to the pool house, where Daniel was located. He was arrested shortly thereafter.

But here’s where things get interesting. You would think after popping up unannounced at his father’s house, Daniel would be arrested for something akin to breaking and entering, right? Well, as noted by the New York Post, it turns out that the arrest was made due to the fact that Daniel allegedly violated a restraining order that was issued by his own father the very same day.

So far, neither Ray, his son Daniel, nor Bernadette has publicly commented on the matter or explained why the restraining order was there in the first place.
