Viral Clap-and-Swap Dance Fail Has Internet in Stitches

You’d think a simple clap-and-swap TikTok dance would be easy, with the only task being staying in time with the music—but apparently, it’s harder than you think. Currently, Black and White folks have been howling with laughter on social media at a video of women at a work conference that has proven that while Black folks often have a natural sense of rhythm, White folks can struggle to keep up. The memes and reactions that have come from the viral clip are hysterical. Here are the best ones that have crossed our timelines.

The Original Video

If the original video hasn’t swept across your timeline, it’s of a group of colleagues at a work conference doing a harmless TikTok dance. The trend goes as follows: One person is in the frame, then claps before moving out of frame to let the next person in line into the frame, all while staying strictly on beat.

Except in this video the Black women stayed in rhythm, but the tempo suddenly changed once the White colleagues came into frame. It made for a hilarious clip showcasing just how much more natural Black folks’ rhythm is than some White folks’, and the internet has been cracking up!

A Recreation of Events

One TikTok creator, John (@mgjohns), recreated the video wearing black wigs and noted that he lost his rhythm when his wig turned blonde. He found identical outfits and wigs that matched exactly what the women in the original video were wearing. In the comments, folks immediately knew what he was referencing and couldn’t get enough of the recreated clip.

“You have to be consistently online to understand this,” added another with laughing emojis.

A third user asked: “How do you have all of their clothes!?”

No Invites To The Cookout

One White content creator, Scott Herbet, shook his head in dismay as he expressed that this video is one example of why White folks will never get invited to the cookout.

“This is why we never get invited to things. And the comments were like, ‘Oooh, I’m invited to the cookout.’ They just needed to make one good video, Sheila. And the moment it went off beat…” he waved his hand, as if he was telling the women in the video to leave. “At this point, all we’ve got is racism. Ain’t sh** else, sticking.” But he gave the women credit for their enthusiasm, even if they couldn’t keep in time with everyone else.

In another hilarious recreation, one mixed family decided to show the ladies how it’s done and managed to stay in time for the entire video. The clip went viral on Instagram, where folks had to give the kids their props for keeping their rhythm.

“Great job staying on beat, children!! Now teach your grown aunties,” exclaimed one user.

A third user joked, “Ok kids, y’all redeemed your parents. Good job!”

How Is It So Hard To Find A Beat?!

While some users were howling with laughter, TikToker Shamar Alion (@shamar_alion) begged the question: How can it be so hard to find the beat?

“This sh** needs to really be studied,” he said. “It’s not like you was listening to some house music or something. It was just,” Alion snapped his fingers to show how slow the beat was going and how easily it could be caught. “We have to study why it’s so hard for White people to be on beat. Is it the music? If they were listening to some country (music)? Are they on beat to their music?”

Commenters agreed, with one writing, “The beat gave you the answers to the test. You literally had the answers right there.”

“As a Black kid who took dance and was the only Black kid in class for a long time, you can see them counting in their head,” added another.
