Tyler Perry’s ‘Why Did I Get Married Again?’ Trailer Just Dropped, and Fans Have Lots of Questions
Fans of Tyler Perry’s “Why Did I Get Married?” franchise were thrilled on Thursday after the teaser for the highly anticipated third iteration of the film was released. And boy, did it have everyone talking for a variety of reasons!
In case you missed it, “Why Did I Get Married Again?” is going to see most of the old crew coming back together again for an all-new adventure and wedding in Italy. However, there were more than a handful of noticeable differences that immediately stood out to viewers online. Chief among them was the fact that Janet Jackson—a staple character since the first film—was not in the trailer. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, who played her budding new love interest in the second film, was also absent.
Seemingly in their places, though, are a few new faces like Taraji P. Henson, who appears to be a new addition to the friend group that includes old faithfuls like Tasha Smith, Jill Scott, Tyler Perry, Michael Jai White, Lamman Rucker, and more. There are also some young twenty-somethings this time around who join our beloved group, like Da’Vinchi, Laya Deleon, and others.

Given all the fresh faces (and absent ones), it’s no wonder folks were curious about the direction of the storyline, and they were quick to express their divided feelings online.
“OK so Taraji’s character marries into the group, guess that makes sense,” wrote one user on X/Twitter.
“I don’t want Roselyn [Henson’s new character]. I want Patricia [Jackson’s character],” said another.
“folks WHERE IS JANET JACKSON?! tyler you’re canceling me RIGHT NOW with this movie,” one other user wrote.
Another major aspect of the film that had folks gagging was the sight of Richard T. Jones’ character, Mike, rocking a full-fledged afro when he’d been bald for the first two films. Although they don’t explain it in the teaser, we gathered that he’ll be entertaining a much younger woman in this film, and the hair may be his attempt at trying to stay relevant.
Still, shocked fans left their comments with the quickness.
“I been watching Richard T. Jones for almost 25 years, never seen a spec of hair on his head… the f *k is this?” one person wrote on X/Twitter.
Another person found the humor in the situation, writing: “HA! The bad wig (on Mike) actually makes sense this time…Touché Tyler!”
Another user hilariously questioned, “Does Mike have a man unit on???”
Bad wig and new characters aside, most fans plan to be tuned in to see what their favorite characters have been up to since we last saw them. And if we’re being completely honest, this franchise is one of Perry’s best out of his entire filmography, so the excitement is understandable.
But rest assured, if it doesn’t give what it needs to, Perry will be hearing from us and the rest of the fans who are expecting to have some new fun with their old faves!
“Why Did I Get Married Again?” hits Netflix on September 9.
