Tiffany Haddish Pleads Guilty in 2022 Georgia DUI Case

It looks like actress and comedian Tiffany Haddish has decided that four years is long enough to fight a DUI case. On Tuesday, the comedian changed her plea from not guilty to guilty, and naturally, she had a few jokes to make while doing so.

Haddish, 46, appeared virtually in a Georgia courtroom Tuesday (Aug. 11) to resolve the DUI case stemming from her January 2022 arrest. Police in Peachtree City responded to a report of a driver asleep behind the wheel on a highway, TMZ previously reported. An officer later pulled over a vehicle matching the description as Haddish was reportedly arriving at a residence.

Now, nearly four years later, Haddish is ready to put the whole thing behind her.

During the hearing, Judge Jason Thompson walked Haddish through the standard questions involved in changing her plea. The actress and comedian, however, was very much herself. After being advised of her rights, she stressed that she wants the whole ordeal to be over.

She told the court, “I would like to fuss a little, but in order to get out of your hair, ’cause it’s been four years, and I’d love to take my hair off, I’m gonna go ahead and just agree.”

Haddish previously tried to get the case thrown out, but a judge was not having it, according to CBS News. She was charged with driving under the influence, failure to obey a traffic control device, improper stopping on a roadway and a parking violation. She was released from jail after posting bond in January 2022.

When the judge asked whether she wanted additional time to speak with her attorneys before changing her plea, Haddish had another answer ready.

“No, that’s too expensive,” she said. “I’ve already spent so much on this case.”

After some deep sighs and smirks, Haddish ultimately agreed to the plea deal, which includes time served and 12 months of probation. She must also complete 40 hours of community service, which she said she plans to fulfill through advocacy work with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, as Extra reported.

Then there was the question of Haddish’s driving privileges. When she learned that her license suspension would apply only in Georgia, Haddish appeared relieved.

“OK cool,” she said, adding, “I don’t plan on being there no time soon. So basically, you want me out of Georgia, that’s for sure!”

Four years after the incident, it seems Haddish has officially left the whole situation in the rearview mirror.
