Rick Ross Learns Fame Doesn’t Mean Special Treatment in the Court of Law
Rapper Rick Ross may be one of hip-hop’s biggest names. But his celebrity status did little to impress a judge during his latest court appearance.
The rapper, whose real name is William Roberts II, appeared in court following his arrest on charges stemming from an alleged domestic violence incident. During the hearing, Ross’ attorney highlighted his client’s celebrity status while discussing concerns about his treatment and safety in custody.
“Mr. Roberts is a celebrity … I’d ask that his release be expedited. He’s in a red jumpsuit,” his lawyer told Judge Mindy Glazer. But unfortunately for Ross, the argument appeared to catch the judge off guard.
When Ross’ attorney referred to him as a celebrity, the judge made it clear that fame would not result in special treatment. The judge reportedly told Ross that she had “no idea” who he was and emphasized that he would be treated like anyone else appearing before the court.

The exchange quickly became one of the most talked-about moments of the hearing, particularly because Ross has spent decades building a highly visible career in music and business. Longtime rival and fellow rapper 50 Cent chimed in after the exchange went viral. “The judge don’t know that fool LOL BOOK HIS STUPID ASS,” he said on Instagram.
For those unfamiliar, Ross is known around the world for his chart-topping records, luxury lifestyle and larger-than-life public persona. But inside the courtroom, none of that carried special weight.
The judge’s comments came as Ross faced serious allegations. He was arrested following an alleged altercation involving a woman he had been living with, TMZ reported. Authorities accused the rapper of striking the woman and choking her to the point that she could not breathe, along with other alleged acts of physical violence.
Ross faces a felony battery-by-strangulation charge as well as a misdemeanor battery charge, according to court documents. The rapper has pleaded not guilty and has denied the allegations. His legal team has maintained that he was wrongfully accused and that the case should be allowed to proceed through the legal system before any conclusions are drawn.
Ross was later released on a $5,000 cash bond, with an arraignment scheduled for October 22. “I repeat, I am totally innocent of these fabricated allegations made against me,” Ross said following his release. ” What my weekend looks like? I’ll be in Dubai tomorrow, Paris Saturday, and I plan on having a bowl of rigatoni with heavy marinara Sunday.”
For someone accustomed to commanding attention everywhere he goes, the courtroom offered a strikingly different environment. There were no concert crowds, flashing cameras or fans looking for autographs–just a judge focused on the allegations before her and the legal process.
The message was straightforward: celebrity may make someone famous outside the courthouse, but once a case reaches the courtroom, the same rules apply. For Rick Ross, that distinction became one of the most memorable moments of his latest legal battle.
