New Court Docs Reveal Deepening Rift Between Chadwick Boseman’s Widow and His Brothers

As Chadwick Boseman’s widow, Simone Ledward, and his brothers continue their legal spat, newly revealed details have just made the situation even more complicated. And unfortunately for fans, this will only upset them further.

If you’ll remember, in July 2026, we told you how Boseman’s brothers filed to have his widow removed as his estate administrator, alleging that she hadn’t distributed funds from the “Black Panther” star’s estate intended for his parents. Although he died without a will in place, a 2022 court order established that the Oscar-nominated actor’s mother and father would receive a 50% share of his assets.

Ledward would receive the other half. However, six years after his death, the “Marshall” actor’s brothers claim she hasn’t paid out what’s owed ($3 million in assets, to be exact) and has instead kept the family in the dark about where the money is going.

Now, Ledward is pushing back on the narrative according to new court documents obtained by Page Six, calling the brothers’ action nothing more than a “public relations stunt to smear [her] in the tabloid press.” She claimed in the docs that she’s distributed the funds the way the “Marshall” star would’ve intended and been “more than generous” to members of Boseman’s family.

“Simone has not only complied with the Order, but as a product solely of her own extraordinary generosity, she has gone well beyond what was required of her,” Ledward’s lawyer Adam Streisand said. “Simone’s generosity has been both financial and collaborative. She has always included the Boseman family in her efforts to ensure Chadwick’s memory would endure and flourish long after her husband’s tragic and untimely death.”

Despite her efforts, Streisand stressed, the family has chosen to repay her by filing a petition “replete with falsehoods” meant to discredit her and cause “collateral damage to her husband’s legacy.”

What’s more, TMZ also recently published a handful of email exchanges between Ledward and Boseman’s brothers that point to tensions brewing earlier than fans once knew. To be specific, one chain of emails between November and December 20202 shows the legal team representing Boseman’s family requesting that Ledward “execute a release for Chad’s medical records” and “digitally image his cell phones, computers, iPads, and other electronics,” as well as his bank accounts in an effort to “fulfill Chad’s actual intent and ensure that the distribution of assets aligns with the free will that God gave him.”

That email and its insinuations apparently didn’t sit right with Ledward or her team, as they noted that the response was a “disappointment to my client and requires now an entirely different posture.” Ledward also pushed back, explaining how she tried to include Boseman’s brothers on all the projects she had slated to honor the “21 Bridges” star’s legacy, but now, new actions would be taken so that her moves and Boseman’s legacy wouldn’t be tarnished.

Things would only escalate from there, as evidenced by another email Ledward received from the brothers in August 2021, who raised concerns about the circumstances surrounding Chadwick’s death and demanded his medical records. In particular, they questioned why he was found on the floor of his bedroom and claimed an autopsy revealed “startling results” that raised concerns about the medical treatment he received, including the amount of hydromorphone found in his system.

And they weren’t just asking questions about Chadwick’s medical care—they also wanted any recordings he may have made about his estate, claiming he had documented plans to split 90% of his film residuals among his parents and brothers. Ledward’s attorney was not having it, firing back the next day and pointing out that the family had been silent for nine months before sending the “disturbing letter” just days before the anniversary of Chadwick’s death. The attorney argued that the timing showed little sensitivity toward Ledward, who was still grieving the loss of her husband.
