Naomi Osaka Makes a Bold Style Statement at the U.S. Open in an Allen Iverson-Inspired Look

From the tennis court to the red carpet, Naomi Osaka has always been intentional about using fashion to express herself and her pride in her heritage. Whether it was the stunning white kimono she wore at Wimbledon or her dramatic Robert Wun-designed look for the 2026 Met Gala, she has never been afraid to push boundaries with her style. Lucky for us, the result has been bold, show-stopping looks that keep us wanting more.

This week, the 28-year-old star is inspiring fans at the U.S. Open with her play and her creative fashion choices.

For her latest look, Osaka took inspiration from legendary NBA player Allen Iverson. With the help of image architect and stylist to the stars, Law Roach, Osaka channeled the former Philadelphia 76ers star, wearing an oversized sleeveless sweatshirt from Who Decides War covered with newspaper clippings from her career and a floor-length white tulle skirt, according to Vogue. In true Iverson fashion, she accessorized her look with his signature cornrows, a headband and two arm bands.

“He’s a trailblazer. I think he’s also someone that I look up to a lot, because he’s done a lot in fashion, whether it’s on purpose or not. He’s shifted the way that NBA players dress,” she said in a press conference. “I also think the whole conversation around clothes in sports, and also just expressing yourself through style, I feel like he’s someone that I look up to in that regard.”

Although the social media comments weren’t all kind, many people showed their appreciation for her creative look.

“THAT’s MY GIRL!!!! I love it.  All Iverson fans shout her out! Don’t worry about what anybody says or does, You Are NAOMI OSAKA doing YOUR  thing.  Trust me, some of your haters want to wear that hairstyle, too.  But they worry what people might say.  THEY NOT LIKE US!” wrote someone on X.

But the ultimate appreciation post came from Allen Iverson himself, who thanked Osaka for her nod to his style on social media, writing, “Wow, what [an] honor!! BIG FAN can’t wait to meet you. @naomiosaka,” on Instagram.

While we’re rooting for everybody Black at the US Open this year, we can’t wait to see what Naomi Osaka wears next.
