Ms. Rachel’s Repost Helped This Black-Owned Bakery Make Rent
Ms. Rachel is known for speaking out in support of marginalized communities, but during Black Business Month she proved just how serious she is about backing Black entrepreneurs — and one baking company, The Bomme Sweets, is still reaping the rewards of being promoted by the YouTube star.
On Aug. 11, the children’s entertainer and educator, whose full name is Rachel Accurso, posted to Threads inviting Black business owners to promote themselves in her comments and encouraging her fans to support them.
“If you are a Black-owned business please share it with us in the replies! Let’s all support! Can’t wait to learn all about you and your passion,” she wrote.

The comment section was flooded with replies and by early September there are more than 10,000 businesses plugging their work in the chain of responses. From sculptors to authors to beauty businesses and jewelry companies, the range of entrepreneurs is overwhelming.
According to a recent interview with the business publication Inc., The Bomme Sweets, owned by Ashley La Bomme-Benson, saw a huge surge in success after commenting on Ms. Rachel’s post.
“I got an alert from Shopify that I had a cookie order. I hadn’t had a cookie order in over a year,” La Bomme-Benson told Inc.
One cookie order quickly turned into more than 100 orders after Ms. Rachel reposted La Bomme-Benson’s content, and it came at a welcome time for the Los Angeles entrepreneur.
“It gave me a boost of confidence that I can do this. Even though I had a dry wave, it doesn’t last forever,” she said.
Not only did Ms. Rachel’s repost help La Bomme-Benson secure more sales, but according to Inc., within 24 hours she made enough money to cover her rent for the next month.
La Bomme-Benson has continued posting on her social media, promoting her business. She’s grown her social following to more than 150,000 followers on TikTok and over 5,000 on Instagram, where she often posts behind-the-scenes videos making and packing orders.
And according to The Bomme Sweets official website, La Bomme-Benson remains committed to growing her business even further.
“As I am still growing and learning in this business I know I am exactly where I am supposed to be and headed in the right direction. To our new customers I look forward to servicing you, to my fellow treat makers I look forward to sharing my knowledge with you,” she writes.
