A Black grandmother in Oklahoma made national headlines after seemingly welcoming Oscar-winning actor Michael B. Jordan into her family. And trust us when we tell you, this story is just too sweet not to share.

If you somehow missed it, allow us to set the scene for you. You see, in May 2026, Mary Story went viral on social media after her granddaughter posted a video showing off Story’s family photo wall in her house. While walls like that are pretty normal and usually not a cause for fanfare, what made this particular one stand out was the fact that the “Sinners” star’s photo was on there with the rest of Story’s real grandchildren.

Why’s she do that, you may ask? “I hate to throw it away, it’s such a nice picture,” Story told her granddaughter Natalie, after confirming that Jordan was indeed not family. (To be clear, the photo in question was an ad Jordan did for David Yurman).

Seeing how cute the moment was, Natalie asked her grandmother to give the “Thomas Crown Affair” star a message should it ever happen to come across his social media timeline.

“Hi! Handsome picture, I put it up on my wall,” Story said.

Natalie later added: “Well Mike, you practically in the family now. So if you’re ever in Tulsa, Oklahoma, my grandma gon’ take care of you. Ain’t no celebrity photos in here. It’s just the president, civil rights leaders, and Dr. Martin Luther King. You have made it, my brother. Welcome to the family.”

Fast forward to nearly a month later, and the video did, in fact, make it to Jordan’s neck of the social media woods. In return, he sent her a handwritten note and a few pieces of David Yurman jewelry as a thank you.

After receiving her gifts, Story then asked her granddaughter if there was any way to call Jordan so that she could personally tell him thank you. While initially laughing it off, Natalie told her that it would likely be a tough ask. However, as the old church folks say: the Lord moves in mysterious ways, as it would only be a matter of weeks until the “Black Panther” star actually took the time out to make the phone call.

During their adorable chat, Jordan thanked Story for letting him be a part of her family and accepted his newfound position as her grandson.

“I just love seeing three different generations of Black women. Y’all are amazing. So much strength, especially in Tulsa. I’ve never been to Tulsa before…I might surprise you. I’mma pull up,” he said.

Now, Story is speaking out about the moment, on Friday, sitting down with local news station Fox 23. Describing her excitement when she found out she’d actually be talking to Jordan after all this time, Story said: “I can’t go eat. I can’t go to the store. I can’t do anything. I never would’ve thought it’d get this exciting. They come up to me, ‘Granny! Granny! I’m surprised that they can remember my face.”

Natalie, who also spoke to Tulsa’s Local 10 News, said that after the first video went viral, his team reached out in about 48 hours to let her know that the “Creed” star had seen the video and was going to officially respond.

Now, after this sweet encounter, Story is reportedly hoping that Jordan will make an appearance at their next family reunion. And you know what? She just might get her wish after all if this ordeal is any indication. It’s truly only a matter of time!
