Marlon Wayans Explains the Real Reason You Rarely See His Brother Shawn
If it feels like it’s been years since we’ve seen Marlon and Shawn Wayans outside together in the way we are now during their press run for their upcoming film, “Scary Movie,” you’re right. However, according to Marlon, there’s a good (yet hilarious) reason for his brother’s years-long absence from the spotlight.
Now, to be clear, Shawn has popped out in a few projects since the turn of the century, including “Dance Flick,” “White Chicks,” and the first two installments of the “Scary Movie” franchise. But unlike his brother Marlon, who has had much more consistent work, Shawn has opted to keep a low profile, choosing instead to focus on family.
“I been home, enjoying my life,” Shawn recently told Atlanta’s V-103. “I love life, I love chilling, I love my family. Not to say that I’m not gonna go be funny, it’s just I don’t move at that pace.”
However, if you ask his little brother, Marlon, there’s an entirely different reason Shawn stays inside. The “Him” actor recently divulged some surprising insight about his brother during an interview with “The Breakfast Club,” sharing that Shawn essentially has no filter and is the one in the Wayans family folks know not to mess with.
Referencing a previous interview the two of them did that ultimately led to Shawn calling fellow comedian Aries Spears a “b*tch,” Marlon joked that he tried to get his brother to quit talking after he went there, but was ultimately unsuccessful.
“I tried to stop him!” Marlon said.
Marlon then turned things on “The Breakfast Club” co-host Charlamagne tha God, referring to a previous riff he and Shawn had in 2011. At the time, Charlamagne suggested that Shawn “propositioned” him by trying to play footsie with him during a previous interview. That, in turn, started a years-long feud between the famous family and the radio host, though things have since been resolved.
“I keep telling him, ‘yo Charlamagne, you f*cking with the wrong Wayans!’ Why do you discolorated ni**as keep picking on Shawn?…’Cause Shawn be minding his business…I mean, leave the brother alone!” Marlon said.
That’s when Charlamagne remarked how irritated he was at fellow co-host DJ Envy, who expressed his excitement about the Wayans brothers coming onto the show because both Shawn and Charlamagne had evolved past the drama.
“I said ‘man, don’t remind them of what happened!’” Charlamagne said.
Marlon responded, telling the radio hosts that his brother’s absence from the interview was intentional, and that he hasn’t forgotten the incident.
“I ain’t gotta remind him. Shawn already remembers! Shawn don’t come here because he don’t wanna f*ck you up. Shawn knows him, he was like ‘he [Charlamagne] gon say something smart!”
“[I was like] yo, don’t be playing with Shawn. Shawn ain’t that dude,” Marlon later added. “You bringing the wrong dude out. Shawn minds his business.”
Ooo-wee! Well, if we weren’t convinced before that we needed to come correct around Shawn moving forward, we know now! Let this be a lesson to anybody and everybody: when it comes to Shawn Wayans, don’t be on BS! Otherwise, when he pops outside again, it may not be nice for you!
