Law Roach Sets the Record Straight on His Fashion Industry Grudges

If you’ve ever witnessed one of his epic reads, you know that Law Roach has never shied away from telling it like it is. Now, in a new interview, he admitted that while he’s trying to do better, he still has a little bit of pettiness ready for anyone who comes at him or his muse Zendaya the wrong way – including the fashion houses that shaded her before she became famous.

The “Project Runway” judge and image architect behind the actress’s most glamorous red carpet looks recently sat down with comedian, actress and writer Ziwe to talk about – well, everything, from his long-time partnership with the “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” actress to what he believes makes him unique from other celebrity stylists.

“I think that what I do is much better than other stylists,” he said. “I don’t just pick a dress; I actually help forge someone’s image, just the way an architect does with a building.”

While Roach has styled many of the industry’s A-listers, including Ariana Grande, Lewis Hamilton and Kerry Washington, he has a special place in his heart for Zendaya, whom he called one of his biggest advocates.

“I think we’re definitely one soul sharing two bodies,” he said, going on to describe her as his best friend, advisor and adversary all rolled up into one.

Roach has been styling Zendaya since she was a teenager and has been open about the luxury fashion houses that wouldn’t dress her before she became a household name, even declaring an “unofficial boycott” of designers like Valentino, Dior, Gucci and Chanel when picking her red carpet looks. When asked if the ban was still in effect, Roach gave Ziwe a layered response.

“I think that there is an importance of being petty, but I’ve outgrown my pettiness,” he said. “I think that holding grudges makes you ugly, so in my quest to become more beautiful, I’ve released some of the grudges that I held.”

Although he said his push to be less petty doesn’t involve dressing his number-one client in the designers who once snubbed her, Roach admitted to Ziwe in the interview that he was wearing St. Laurent, one of the designers he targeted with his boycott. Maybe that means we may see Zendaya in Chanel one day?

The conversation went on to cover a variety of hilarious topics, including why he sees nothing wrong with showing a little skin once in a while. Fans seemed to love every minute of it.

“I didn’t expect Law’s episode to be the one that got the most giggles out of me,” wrote someone in the comments.
