Heartbreaking New Development for Malcolm-Jamal Warner’s Widow and Daughter

It’s been a little over a year since beloved “Cosby Show” actor Malcolm-Jamal Warner died. But sadly, things have become even more complicated for his widow and daughter in the aftermath—and now a close friend is doing what they can to help. Let’s break it down.

As we previously told you, Warner passed away from accidental “asphyxia by submersion” while on a family vacation in Costa Rica in July 2025. While little had been made public about his widow, Tenisha, or their nine-year-old daughter in the days following his death, we learned in July 2026 that Tenisha was suing Warner’s mother for $1.2 million in an attempt to collect on a premarital agreement, including a $1 million life insurance policy, according to “Good Morning America.”

Now, however, it looks like their financial position has worsened, as evidenced by a new GoFundMe created by Tenisha’s longtime friend, Destiny Rael. In its description, Rael revealed even more little-known tidbits about her friend’s livelihood and shared that amidst her grief and the lawsuit, Tenisha is also dealing with repairs to the home she and Warner lived in. All of this, per Rael, is what inspired her to step in to help her friend.

“I have watched Tenisha spend this year grieving the love of her life while honoring the promise they made to each other, to homeschool their nine-year-old daughter. Every single day she shows up for her child as though her own world had not fallen apart, and still makes sure breakfast is on the table,” Rael wrote in the description.

She continued: “I stayed with Tenisha when she finally returned home after Malcolm’s tragic accident, only to find the house she and her husband built packed into boxes after unexpected flooding. She is rebuilding not only her life without him, but the very home they created together.”

Rael went on to say that Tenisha wasn’t left financially secure, despite Warner’s best efforts to do so. She explained how he worked with his attorneys to update his estate plan to provide for his wife and daughter, but he passed away before he could sign it. Tenisha is now left to manage his estate—and the costs that come with it—alone, hence the creation of the fundraiser.

What’s more is that Rael noted that the fundraiser and the revelation of details weren’t being put out in an attempt to get people to pick sides, but rather to support Tenisha and her family the way Warner would’ve wanted.

“The funds will help ease the financial strain, cover the expenses she is now facing, and provide security for Tenisha and her daughter as they work toward resolving Malcolm’s affairs,” Rael wrote. “I am not asking anyone to take sides in a family matter that was never meant to be public. I am asking you to stand with a grieving wife and mother, and her young daughter, so they don’t lose what Malcolm always intended to provide for them.”
