Black Twitter Wants Trump to Stay Away From the Knicks Game

New York Knicks fans’ vibes have been at an all-time high as their beloved team is just two wins away from its first NBA championship since 1973. But the good feelings may be compromised as President Donald Trump, a native of Queens, is scheduled to attend Game 3 at Madison Square Garden.

According to ESPN, Trump’s attendance at the game will mean heightened security, including Secret Service agents, around MSG.

In an official statement, the NYPD confirmed that the outdoor watch parties, which have drawn thousands outside of the arena, will come to a halt. To prepare for Trump’s arrival, there will be “a hard closure around Madison Square Garden, with no watch parties, vehicle access, or pedestrian traffic permitted in the secured area.”

”This was done fully in coordination with the Secret Service because of the presidential visit. We expect watch parties at Madison Square Garden to resume for Game 4,” the statement read.

When Black Knicks fans learned that Trump would be in the building for Game 3, they were quick to share their responses on social media.

U.S. Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, a die-hard Knicks fan, advised Trump to watch the game from the White House, claiming the president always makes everything about himself.

“Why does Donald Trump always have to ruin a good thing?” Jeffries told CNN. “Like, literally, the Knicks haven’t been in the NBA finals for 27 years. The city is trying to celebrate this. We’ve embraced this team, and this guy has to inject himself.”

On ESPN’s “First Take,” Stephen A. Smith said he will blame Trump if the Knicks take an L on Monday.

“If it causes the New York Knicks to lose tonight, I’m blaming him. I’m blaming the president of the United States,” Smith said. “And damnit, I hope the GOP loses votes because of it if we lose tonight!”

Ma$e, along with co-host Cam’ron, explained on their “It Is What It Is” podcast that Trump is risking all his political capital, claiming he’ll face some serious heat from New Yorkers if the Knicks were defeated.

“If you got the Knicks playing the way they’re playing, anything new could jeopardize what we’ve been seeing,” said Ma$e. “People are gonna blame [you]. If you think they hated Trump before, if he comes to this game and they lose, his presidency might be on line in New York.”

One user took to X (formerly Twitter) to say that Trump will receive the loudest boos ever if the Knicks are not victorious.

“I’m telling you right now, if Trump doesn’t find some common sense and stay the f*ck away from the Garden for Game 3, New York Knicks fans will boo so loudly, you will hear it from space,” they wrote. “New York will NEVER forgive him if he jinxes the Knicks.”

On X, @TaraSetmayer accused Trump of trying to kill the vibe while the Knicks are on a historic playoff run.

“New Yorkers hate Trump and don’t want him at the Knicks game tonight,” the post read. “He’s distracting from the incredible run the Knicks are on. Let’s not allow him to ruin the vibe! Let’s go, Knicks!”

But there is one Knicks fan who is actually welcoming Trump’s attendance at the game. Amar’e Stoudemire, a former Knicks All-Star, said that he believes Trump should be welcomed into MSG with open arms because of his office. He added that the president may receive a standing ovation.

“He deserves all the respect we can give him,” Stoudemire told TMZ Sports. “It’s a tough job to be the President, I think Knicks fans will show him respect on Monday.”
