A New Documentary About Wendy Williams is in The Works, Here’s Why Fans Say You Shouldn’t Watch It

On Monday, Aug. 24, it was announced that Peacock greenlit a three-part documentary about Wendy Williams’ iconic talk show, set to release in 2027. While the docuseries has already gained the attention of folks online who can’t wait to watch it, other fans of the talk show host are not pleased and are calling for a boycott. Let’s talk about it.

“Clap If You Care: The Wendy Williams Show” goes behind the scenes of Williams’ popular talk show. However, while fans welcome a chance to take a look behind the velvet curtain, they’re not ok with the idea that Williams herself had no involvement in the series’ production.

According to Loren LoRosa, a source close to Williams told the radio host that “Wendy was BLINDSIDED by this new documentary ‘Clap If You Care,’” she wrote on X.

In fact, the approval for the documentary’s production came from Suzanne Bass, former executive producer of “The Wendy Williams Show” and a former friend of Williams. However, according to LoRosa, the two have zero contact with each other.

“My source close to Wendy made it clear Wendy Williams did not ok this doc and clarified that Wendy does not talk to Suzanne at all. I’m told Wendy was never involved in the doc. My source alleges Suzanne moved very sketchy. When asked if Wendy would financially benefit from the doc at all… my source could not provide a clear ‘yes’ and called the doc ‘disgusting,’” LoRosa continued.

This has drawn swift backlash from fans of Williams, with folks on TikTok rallying against the documentary.

Emphasizing how close Wendy Williams and Suzanne Bass were, content creator @Everybodyhatekrissy had this to say about the docuseries: “Suzanne gave partner in crime. The [production] team loved working there. I mean, I remember all the way back when Wig [Williams’ hairstylist] was there, their team was just so cute, and Wendy Williams was the kind of person who made working at her show a family atmosphere. So, for [Bass] to do this, stab in the back, Judas! You Judas!”

Krissy also touched on Williams’ conservatorship, which has been in place since May of 2022, adding that for Bass to blindside the talk show host at this time in her life is especially “darksided.”

“She’s at her lowest, where even though she is out with her niece Alex [Finnie], I do believe she’s still fighting in this conservatorship,” she said. “I do not feel like she has her money or her rights at all, still. So for you to do this is just like, you backdoored her at her darkest hour. That’s what type of snake you are, Suzanne.”

In the comments, fans of Williams agreed with Krissy.

“So as a blk community we need to stand 10 toes behind Wendy and get Suzanne up out of here PERIOD,” wrote one user.

“Oh, this done pissed me off! Really SUZANNE,” added another.

“Please please no one watch it please we all love you Wendy,” commented a third.

Another TikTok user, @briefedbyelle, said that folks need to stop playing with Wendy Williams.

“How dare you. How dare any of you do anything related to Wendy Williams with Wendy Williams still here? We’re gonna stop acting like she’s not the icon she is,” she said. “You might not like her commentary, but Wendy Williams did something that a lot of women were not doing on the radio in the ’90s and then turned around and flipped it into a television show. Everybody can’t do that. Y’all really gotta stop playing with Wendy.”

Charlamagne tha God is another critic who has openly said he wants nothing to do with the documentary. After Loren LoRosa detailed the statements of her exclusive source on a recent episode of “The Breakfast Club,” Charlamagne said that the production team approached him before the documentary was officially greenlit.

“One [member of the production team] reached out for me to be a part of it and be a producer and stuff, but when I asked if Wendy was going to be involved, they were acting like they didn’t know,” he said. “But when I reached out to Alex [Finnie], Alex was like, ‘We don’t know about no documentary.’”

Adding that he didn’t know the narrative angle of the documentary, the radio host said: “Once I know that Wendy’s not going to be involved, I don’t want no part of it, because I don’t know which story they’re telling. I don’t want to be part of no salacious nonsense.”

Suzanne Bass has not made any public comments about the documentary or Williams’ lack of involvement.
