A Beautiful Life: Black Georgia Mom Adopts Gas Station Clerk’s White Baby
D’Amber Davis never expected a stop at a gas station in Jackson, Georgia, to change her family forever. But a connection with cashier Katelyn Sparks led Davis to adopt her baby boy, proving that family isn’t always defined by blood, but by love, compassion and the choice to be there for one another.
Davis regularly stopped at the gas station, where she met Sparks. As they continued running into each other, Davis soon discovered that Sparks was about 33 weeks pregnant and unsure about raising her baby, according to Davis’ TikTok. Davis had considered adoption before, but she never expected an opportunity to arise so unexpectedly.
“Katie looked a little big today,” Davis told 13 WMAZ. “So, you know, I didn’t say anything. And my son, he was with me. He normally doesn’t be with me either, so that’s what kind of sparked the conversation up.”
But there was one problem: Sparks wasn’t able to take care of the growing baby. After learning about her situation, Davis offered to raise the unborn son. Sparks agreed, setting the stage for a life-changing journey for both women.

“I just know I got to get this baby,” Davis told the outlet.
Davis also learned that Sparks had not received prenatal care during her pregnancy. She helped her find medical attention and accompanied her to an obstetric assessment before the baby arrived.
Sparks eventually gave birth to a healthy baby boy named Nolan, weighing 7 pounds, 8 ounces, according to reports. Davis welcomed him into her family and soon realized how deeply the experience would affect her own life. Now, Davis shares her experience caring for Nolan through her TikTok, @love_makes_a_family, which has over 195,000 followers.
“When I said yes to raising Nolan, I also thought about Katie,” Davis wrote on TikTok. “I knew deep down she didn’t want to give him up. But for the best she did what she had to do. I knew if I took him and raised him she would still be able to see him.”
As for Sparks, the two women have maintained a close relationship, with Sparks even saying she views Davis as an older sister.
For Davis, adoption was never about removing Nolan’s biological mom from his life. She wanted him to know his roots and maintain a connection with the woman who gave birth to him.
Ultimately, Davis and Sparks’ experience is a reminder that family can take many forms. Sometimes, it begins with an unexpected encounter and a willingness to help someone in need. Through compassion, trust and unconditional love, two women who met at an ordinary gas station built an extraordinary family… One that shows belonging is defined not only by biology, but by the people who choose to love us.
“As [Nolan] becomes able to understand, we’ll talk openly about his story. And whenever questions come, I want him to know he can ask freely, with his family right here to help answer them,” Davis continued. “He just gets to be a baby, surrounded by love from every side. That’s what I want him to feel first.”
